Tinny took her first oboe lesson with Chan Kwok-Cheong when she was 13. She received her Bachelor's degree from the Royal Academy of Music in London and completed her Master's degree with full marks at the Hochschule für Künste in Bremen, Germany. Her main teachers were Celia Nicklin and Prof. Christian Hommel.
Tinny has been perfoming actively, primarily as an orchestral player. In 2016, she was Co-Principal Oboe of Southbank Sinfonia in London and performed in productions of the Royal Opera House and Glyndebourne Opera. In 2014, Tinny was selected to participate in the Penderecki Music Academy, touring Germany and Poland with Krzysztof Penderecki. She has also played under the baton of eminent conductors such as Sir Colin Davis, Semyon Bychkov and Lorin Maazel. Her performances were broadcasted by BBC Radio 3, Hessischer Rundfunk and RTHK Radio 4. As a freelance oboist, she has performed with Ensemble Modern (Germany), Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and Hong Kong New Music Ensemble.
Currently based in Sweden, Tinny serves as Associate Principal Oboe of Jönköpings Sinfonietta for the season 2019/20.
Tinny Cheung debuts at PRISM Chamber Music Festival in 2019 with PCMF Ensemble-Collective, performing G.P. Telemann’s Esserzisii Musici and Guillaume Connesson’s Sextuor.
