VIVIAN TING-CHIA SHEN
Born in Taipei, Vivian Shen began studying violin at the age of five. She entered the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts to further her studies, under Prof. Michael Ma in 2013 and 2017, graduated with First Class Honours in both her Bechelor’s and Master’s degrees. She is currently faculty at the Junior Music Programme of the HKAPA.
She has participated in masterclasses with Maxim Vengerov, Cho-liang Lin, Ray Chen, Christoph Poppen and Robert Chen. She has also received coaching from Paganini Competition winners Si-qing Lu, Huang Bin and Ning Feng. She has also joined summer music festivals including the Prague Arts Festival in Czech Republic in 2007. She also performed as soloist in Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto at the National Concert Hall in Taipei in 2011, with the Academy Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Sharon Andrea Choa in 2016. A the renowned Aspen Festival Orchestra under renowned conductors, including Robert Spano, Ludovic Morlot, Hugh Wolff, James Gaffigan, Miguel Harth-Bedoya and Vasily Petrenko. Most recently, she also participated in the Montréal International String Quartet Academy with the NOVA String Quartet.
Shen has been a core member of the NOVA Ensemble since 2017.
Vivian Shen debuted at PRISM Chamber Music Festival in 2018 with NOVA Ensemble, performing works by Rautavaara, Takashi Yoshimatsu and Jolivet.
